Construction industry experts warn that increasing public scrutiny of construction projects demands a higher level of stakeholder engagement. Accurate and unassailable project data is needed to support those conversations.

“Traditionally, construction was about hard dollar bidding and it was generally lowest price wins,” according to Brett Birch of Abergeldie Complex Infrastructure. “We’re finding now that clients are moving away from that, and they’re more mindful of the risk that the project brings.”

As construction and infrastructure projects become increasingly complex, there’s a growing need for efficient and systematic approaches and solutions to risk management. Lee Hellen, Managing Director of Monitum Pty Ltd, is leading this charge, backed by his team of engineering data scientists and state of the art technology.

“Our ‘Internet of Things’ sensors, drones, lidar and robotics can extract precise geodetic, geotechnical, structural, seismic and environmental measurements right down to the millimetre every few seconds,” says Lee. “Our strength sits within our custom software and team of geospatial and geotechnical experts, who design, collect, engineer, analyse and report the data for a specific engineering outcome”.

“We can monitor hundreds of critical data points across projects and generate real-time alerts if something changes or goes wrong,” Lee adds. “Delivered in a systematic and trusted way, Monitum delivers meaningful benefit by reducing project complexity and risk”.

Monitum is already kicking some serious goals. Early in its conception (however not in their experience), they’ve twice taken out Queensland Spatial Excellence Awards for Technical Excellence and Innovation and Commercialisation and show no signs of slowing down.
