Monitoring the Melbourne St Tunnel during an adjoining construction sequence was a challenge that demanded the highest standards in monitoring capability.
Using a combination of robotic total stations, Vibration geophones, IoT crack-meters and Tilt sensors Monitum delivered in near real time results in this busy transport tunnel for a continuous period of 20 months without interruption to our client’s construction program.
The project was not without its challenges, including unique challenges with changing atmospheric conditions and interference from a variety of electrical devices within the tunnel. However, Monitum consistently achieved the required measurement tolerances for total station observations of 2-4 mm inside the tunnel in near real time, transmitted through dedicated communications to the tunnel portal. This project was a success for the builder, tunnel engineers and the transport authority.
